MONITORING AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE RELIABILITY OF INSPECTION PROCEDURES APPLIED TO RESIDUES OF VETERINARY DRUGS

Objective

The objective is to examine the analytical strategy and the quality of inspection procedures in order to offer a harmonized and cost-effective system for the inspection of residues of veterinary drugs in meat and meat products. The approach can be generally applied and will provide a fundamental basis for the quality assurance of inspection procedures.
Specific objectives are:
- To provide strategies, to quantify the risk of false negative results in inspection procedures, used in the EU for control of illegal use of hormones and beta-agonists in animal fattening.
- To provide, for each of the participating laboratories, concrete figures, that ensure a desired probability of false positive and false negative results for the inspection of illegal use of hormones and beta-agonists, under the investigated conditions.
- To make available the results of 1 and 2 to the European Commission, Community Reference Laboratories (CRLs) for hormones and beta-agonists, National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) and other control laboratories.
- To export the know how obtained by the project into the scientific world as well into the practice of inspection procedures in other fields. Although applied here to hormones and beta-agonists, the approach is applicable to all kind of inspection procedures. The results, obtained in this project, can act as an example for other fields.
