SILVICULTURAL STRATEGIES FOR PREDICTING DAMAGE TO FORESTS FROM WIND, FIRE AND SNOW : INTEGRATING TREE, SITE AND STAND PROPERTIES WITH GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATIONS SYSTEMS AND REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MODELS TO EVALUATE OPTIONS FOR FOREST MANAGEMEN

Objective

To study the interaction between tree/stand, site, soil, wind, climate and fire in the cause of natural disasters. Through the use of GIS and satellite information systems and actual field data construct a predictive model to classify the degree of risk of individual stands to wind, fire and snow.
