Objetivo
CEA CADARACHE ' S ACCELERATOR SUPPLIES NEUTRONS OF ABOUT 14 MEV BY THE REACTION D + T - ALPHA + N. THESE NEUTRONS ARE FILTERED BY SPHERICAL SHIELDS OF VARIABLE SIZE AND NATURE. THE FLUXES AND ENERGY SPECTRA OF PHOTONS AND NEUTRONS PENETRATING A SPHERE PLACED IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR HAVE TO BE CALCULATED. NEUTRON TRANSPORT WILL BE SIMULATED DOWN TO 0.01 EV IN ORDER TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE RADIATIVE CAPTURE REACTIONS.
THE PRIMARY NEUTRON FLUX IS DEDUCTED FROM THE MEASUREMENT OF ALPHA PARTICLES EMITTED BY THE ABOVE REACTION. THIS MEASUREMENT IS DISTURBED BY PROTONS COMING FROM THE REACTION D + D - P + T DUE TO THE GRADUAL ABSORPTION OF DEUTERIUM BY THE TRITIATED TARGET. THE DISTURBANCE CAN BE CONSIDERABLE AND IS DIFFICULT TO EVALUATE EXPERIMENTALLY. THE ENERGY SPECTRA AND THE FLUXES OF ALPHA PARTICLES AND PROTONS AT THE COUNTERS WILL BE CALCULATED AS A FUNCTION OF THE DEUTERIUM CONCENTRATION IN THE TARGET. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS CONCENTRATION OVER THE PASSAGE OF TIME WILL BE DETERMINED BY EXPERIMENT.
