DEVELOPMENT OF THE TWIN DETECTOR METHOD AND OF MICRODOSIMETRIC CONCEPTS AND METHODS FOR RADIATION PROTECTION

Objectif

THIS PROPOSAL WILL PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON DOSIMETRY FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS AND THE POPULATION. AREA MONITORING AND THE INTERPRETATION OF DOSE-EFFECT RELATIONSHIPS WILL BE IMPROVED.
Work is concerned with the development and implementation of the twin detector method and computational studies for radiation protection, mathematical and numerical studies in microdosimetry, and microdosimetry of heavy ion beams at UNILAC.

The objective of the project was the further development of the variance-covariance method which permits the determination of microdosimetric parameters in radiation fields of fluctuating intensity. A pair of detectors (the twin-detectors) is exposed to the same radiation field and registers the energy imparted within each of the detectors simultaneously. The difference between the variance (due to the fluctuation of energy imparted) and the covariance (due to the dose-rate fluctuations of the radiation field) determines the intrinsic microdosimetric fluctuations depending only on radiation quality, ie, the inherent properties of the radiation.
1. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TWIN DETECTOR METHOD.
2. COMPUTATIONAL STUDIES FOR THE TWIN DETECTOR METHOD.
3. MATHEMATICAL AND NUMERICAL STUDIES IN MICRODOSIMETRY.
4. MICRODOSIMETRY OF HEAVY ION BEAMS AT THE UNILAC.
