Résultats exploitables

The reconstructed epidermis composed of keratinocytes, melanocytes and Langerhans cells is the first in vitro model containing the three major cell types of the epidermis. It is now possible to study in vitro the complex mechanisms of cell interaction, in particular the implication of each cell type in. the immune response of the skin. The method to produce such a model has been published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and is thus available to be exploited by the international scientific community.
The in vitro generation of a reconstructed human epidermis containing Langerhans cells has never been described or achieved before. The procedure to obtain a reconstructed epidermis composed of its major three cell type keratinocytes, melanocytes and Langerhans cells has, in agreement with the other participating teams, been patented before publication of the method in an international scientific journal. Team 1 (L'0r6al), highly implicated in the use and development of new alternative methods, with a capacity to industrially produce reconstructed skin (EPISKIN), has thus protected its interests.
Reconstructed human epidermis containing Langerhans cells can be used to evaluate the sensitizing, irritant and allergen potential of new compounds and formulations. The procedure elaborated for the testing has been patented.
