Preparatory research for the exploitation of microwave specific accelerations of important reactions in biotechnology.

Objectif



The main goal of the work team is to complete the anlysis of viability and the conditions that must accomplish a new microwave irradiator to accelerate several biological reactions by means of the absorption of microwaves at low temperatures, in order to optimize identified applications in the following areas. Cell factories, plant and animal biotechnology, cell communication in neurosciences and structural biology. Furthermore, many of applications in the field of industrial and private sterilization of goods and installations appear as good market opportunity. On the other hand, it is also foreseen to proceed with the future development of this new instrumentation and its eventual commercialization. In this sense, it is necessary to identify potential European partners, both at the research and industrial level to go ahead with the next phase of the project in which we will first design and later build prototypes of the equipment to test and demonstrate the utility and advantages over the current equipment used. We are also interested in finding a research group working on the Physics of the Microwave interaction with molecule, at a theoretical, (quantum mechanics) level, to help us in the identification of the final reasons for detected effects. In fact, if these goals are achieved, we intend to present a follow-up application to the European Union for a second phase of development and demonstration of the utility and advantages of the new microwave irradiators, based on a different technology that the magnetron. We are currently preparing a patent application to cover the rights of utilization of our findings. This proposal is of a precompetitive nature since as a consequence of its successful implementation, we will be ready to develop the new technology and eventually start a demonstration program that will convince the potential users of the associated improvements.
