Objective
The aim is to demonstrate a high efficient fluidised bed boiler, firing straw (130.000 t/yr), that is not subject to sintering and fouling. The 25 MWe and > 7 MWth CHP plant will be built in Pamplona (Spain). The innovative aspects are a water cooled air distributor, allowing easier removal of coarse material produced by sintering of straw, and a vertical radiant superheater claimed to be less liable to fouling. Natural gas will be used for superheating to 540 deg. C in the initial phase with a gradual change to full straw operation. An innovative straw handling system for different bale sizes is also proposed.
