END-USE OF LANDFILL GAS FOR GLASSHOUSE HEATING

Objective

The project aims at utilising landfill gas (LFG) from the landfill of Lewarde to heat a glasshouse (to be build) for horticultural production. The innovative part is linked to the integration of landfill gas recovery for cogeneration and horticulture. Thus, 700 m3 LFG (40% methane) per hour will be collected, not further treated and used in a 1125 kW dual fuel engine to produce on a winter seasonal basis 3900000 kWhe per year to be used to light 950 halogen lamps and for the rest to be sold to the grid. Heat recovered from the engine plus a 1000 kW boiler partly LFG fueled will produce the process heat for 10000 m2 glasshouses for cultivation of roses.
