Objetivo
To establish a demo-plant in Poland with an existing technology from the Western countries and to make sure that a plant from the EEC area will be the first one on the market. Replacing coal and improving the environment with the use of CO2 neutral fuel.
To minimize methane emission to the atmosphere and be part of the global solution of the greenhouse effect. Since all waste from 38 mio. people in Poland is deposited on landfills it contributes a great deal to the greenhouse effects.
To minimize discharge of methanee which forms a potential danger of explosions in the area due to surrounding buildings.
The landfill gas plant in Torun will be built up on a landfill owned by Torun Municipality. The site contain about 1 mill. t of waste. The area is about 6 ha and the average depth 18-20 m.
The extraction system will be made of approximately 40 wells drilled with a diameters of 0,6-0,8 m and with a distance of 40 m.
In the centre of the wells a perforated pipe will be placed for gas extraction and another pipe for pumping out of water. There will be filled up with gravel around the pipes.
From each gas well a horizontal pipeline is connected to a container equipped with a gas pump which sucks the gas from the single wells and presses the gas through a transmission pipe to the utilization system. The container also includes a measuring and regulation system which measures the content of methane and carbon dioxide for every 15 minutes. Depending on the quality of the gas a motor-controlled valve automatically adjusts the gas flow from each well.
The production plant is a CHP (combined heat and power) - unit consisting of a gas engine running an electrical generator. The power production is about 500 kW and the waste heat is about 980 kW.
The electricity have to be used in the grid and the heat in the district heating system in Torun.
The plant will be built up on a location called Toral B, owned by the Electrical Company and where one of the existing Power Plant is established.
The project will be divided in five phases :
- Phase 1. Design : The project will be planned and negotiated with authorities and a detailed project will be carried out.
- Phase 2. Manufacturing : Production of pipes for wells, horizontal pipes and transmission pipe. Manufacturing of measuring, pump and regulation module including steering equipment, valves, pump, filter, cooling system, etc. Furthermore manufacturing of the gas engine and generator.
- Phase 3. Construction : Drilling of wells, establishment of measuring, regulation and pump system in a container will take place. Furthermore, the utilization system with the gas engine/generator system will be established.
- Phase 4. Commissioning : Commissioning and supervision of the hole plant. Training of the operational staff and running in of the plant.
- Phase 5 . Monitoring/Evaluation : During a two year period a measuring programe will go on registering the gas flow, gas quality, total energy production and power and heat production.
