Objective
To demonstrate the environmentally acceptable disposal of non-metallic residues arising from the shredding of motor vehicles and similar materials on a commercial scale.
To demonstrate that all relevant E.C. emission standards can be met by utilizing a novel circulating fluid bed combustion unit. To recover heat and generate 2.8 MW of electrical power from the combustion unit.
Residues remaining after the removal of metallic components from the output of vehicle shredder are fed to a novel circulating bed combustion unit.
Heat is recovered from the flue gases, raising steam which is used to drive a turbine to generate electricity. The cooled flue gases are cleaned of various pollutants by a combination of wet scrubbing and dry filtration to allow all relevant emission standards to be met.
The project will solve an increasingly difficult disposal problem in an environmentally desirable fashion while generating electricity from a non-fossil and otherwise unexploited resource.
