Objective
The aim of the project is to demonstrate a power plant for 2.9 MW(e) fuelled by arable coppice. The plant will require 18,000 dry tonnes of wood fuel, which can be supplied at up to 60% moisture content. A waste heat drier be used to reduce the moisture content from 50% to 20% prior to combustion. The wood is combusted in a bubbling fluidised bed boiler to generate steam at 62 bar, 510 deg. C. The steam drives a steam turbine generator producing 3.2 MW(e) gross. A high efficiency filter is used to remove dust from the flue gases. The innovation lies in the utilisation of short rotation coppice (willow and poplar) for electricity generation, with the integrated simulation of areas of agricultural decline. First such plant in the EC.
