Objective
Production during 7200 h/y of 7000 T of charcoal and 2000 TOE thermal energy from 35000 T wood waste and brushwood, using the Carbolisi technology. It consists of an horizontal U shaped tunnel furnace into which separate wagons of wood are fed. The tunnel furnace is divided in distinct sections for the drying, carbonisation of wood and cooling of charcoal. The heat required by the process is provided by the combustion of the non-condensable pyrolytic vapours. Combustion fumes at 1100-1200 deg. C are used for indirect heating (heat exchanger) of the carbonisation zone and direct heating of the drying one. Excess heat converted in steam for a nearby industry (cfr. proposal BM/150/91).
