Objective
To demonstrate the supply of steam and waste heat to a papermill and district heating network through the preparation and combustion of solid waste and RDF in a fluid bed boiler.
Unprocessed and processed solid waste is to be combusted in a 35 MW fluid bed boiler. The fuel preparation system and boiler have an estimated throughput of 190 000 T/y of solid waste and 65 000 T/y of RDF respectively. Temperatures in the lower and upper bed will be 750 deg. C and 1 000 deg. C respectively, with a residence time of 2.2 sec. The high temperature in the upper bed ensures the destruction of dioxin and thus eliminates the need for a secondary combustion chamber. The fluid bed boiler has a multifuel capability and, in comparison to conventional grate incinerators, a high waste burn out capability. Steam is fed to a 10 MW turbine generator and for use in a papermill. Low grade waste heat is to be used for district heating at Venemelev.
