Validate a BSI development framework (Data Library - BSI development - Clinical evaluation) in order to focus research on real clinical problems and to speed up the transfer of results into commercial products and clinical use.
The goals of IBIS are twofold. At the conceptual level, this project validates anew framework for collaboration between clinicians, industry, and biomedical engineers. At the practical level, IBIS develops, validates and evaluates new BSI methods for neuromonitoring in order to improve the outcomes of critical care. The foundation of the project is an annotated Data Library (DL) of continuous physiological signals and intermittent signals and variables of patients during intensive care and surgery. This DL will be collected at three clinical sites in the domain of neuromonitoring. Three BSI task groups each concentrating on one of the three disorder sets will use the DL. The resulting BSI methods are validated with a separate part of the DL. Those that pass will finally be evaluated in a real clinical setting. The technical basis for this approach is formed by the existing open monitoring and data management platform which will be upgraded in the project to include neurophysiological measurements. This platform is available through the participation two leading manufacturers in the IBIS consortium. In reaching its goals, the outcomes IBIS produces are:
