Exploitable results
Current hardware is limited by the welding process and repeat costs have to be faced for different orbital applications. The derived prototype system can drive the range of orbital heads using the same control hardware and software. Innovative control welding procedures have also been applied, for penetration monitoring and control. Process applications have been researched. These are small-bore ultra-high purity tubing, medium-size steam generating pipe and large-diameter oil and gas pipeline. Different welding processes have been researched using the same hardware configuration: tungsten inert gas, plasma keyhole and metal inert gas welding.
