Objetivo
Development of superalloy coating by plasma spraying, packed cementation, CVD,
Development of a methodology to evaluate the coking behavior of the coatings,
Development of a methodology to evaluate coatings resistance against thermal shocks,
Development of a methodology and instrument developments to study and evaluate the topography of the coatings,
Design and build up of an experimental set up to perform kinetic experimentation of coking up to 950 C,
Modeling of coke deposition rate on 2 different superalloys.
This project proposes the development and test of new anticoling coatings that will be applied to the internal surfaces of high temperature petrochemical reactors such as steam cracking furnaces. These coatings will not contain any trace of nickel and iron which are catalysts of coke deposition; and so, will be highly chemically inert for this reaction. The work programme will be divided into 3 phases:
PHASE I (Month 1 to Month 21): Coating Preparation and Testing
- Preliminary coated samples preparation with the selected ceramic coatings and the selected techniques (Plasma Spraying, Chemical Vapour Deposition, Packed Cementation).
- Physicochemical characterization and thermal testing of the preliminary samples.
- Coking testing of the preliminary samples in a micropilot to be built.
- Kinetic modeling of coke deposition.
PHASE II (Month 18 to Month 24): Pilot Test Preparation
- Coated tube pieces preparation and thermal testing.
- Selection of coatings for pilot test.
PHASE III (Month 24 to Month 36): Pilot Test
- Pilot test in industrial process conditions of the coatings selected at the end of phase II.
- Kinetic model validation.
