INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR MACHINE TOOL SLIDEWAYS

Objective

The slideways, on which the saddles and work-plates move, count towards the most important elements of a machine tool. They lie in the direction of the force and as such have a great effect on the precision and performance. Hydrodynamic slideways are the most frequently used type of slideway in machine tools. The primary reason for this lies in the comparatively low manufacturing costs and good stiffness and damping characteristics. Lately nevertheless, due to frequent functional faults, their use is being critisized more often. The reasons for this are clamping problems or stick-slip effects as well as greasy deposits, bacteria and fugi formed due to the incompatibility of the lubricant and cooling lubricant.

The aim of the project is to solve the current problems and improve the functionality and reliability of the machine by optimizing the concept and design of the tribological system "slideway". Therefore, the project will consider all the relevant influencing parameters. Not only will existing techniques be improved, but the development state of the slideways will be increased by uing innovative methods. These are new materials, new lubricant and new lubricating strategies.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
