The project concerned the development of a methodology for the treatment of sulphide tailings in order to allow their safe storage as stable settlements (backfill) in conditions safe to the environment. This methodology brings an interesting solution for the improvement of the environment of this type of mining site and may be expanded to other acidic solid waste. The procedure is to be expanded to all current and future exploitation sites, as well as toward other solid wastes. Some spin off is the ability developed in environmental consulting services, particularly for arsenic containing waste.
