INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATED LEATHER CUTTING

Objectif

This project aims at the development of an automatic system for leather cutting process. The leather cutting reppresents a common and very critical stage in all the production cycle which use the tanned-leather as Raw Material(RM).

This Project is based on an innovative approach of the cutting process;the cutting system will allow material waste and production lead-times reduction and also quality improvement in a wide range of application fields as for padded furniture, cloths, goods and shoes production.

The basic idea consists in the development of an appropriate cutting method that will be implemented through an integrated and flexible system,by which most of the process steps will be carried on automatically. By integrating components and devices based on innovative technologies, the system will allow leather feature identification(defects, shape, size, etc)and optimal use of the raw material. In fact, given the number of leathers needed to realize the end product and the complete pattern set that the product model consists of, the optimal utilization of the raw material will be achieved by the automated nesting operation.

In this phase, patterns provided by CAD system will be arranged on the leather immage in account to its characteristics such as certain kind of defects(size and type). Once the leather will be loaded into the proper station,it will be completely and automatically managed by the system. Since the leather identification needs to be determined, the first and the second station will be completly based on a vision system.

Integrated devices and actuators, for flexible material handling, will manage the internal storage and transport of the leather before the automatic cutting. The cutting system will be designed and developed foreseeing different modular configurations suitable with different plant lay-out of the End User.
