THE APPLICATION OF DIAMOND FILMS TO ENHANCE THE EROSIVE WEAR RESISTANCE OF CEMENTED TUNGSTEN CARBIDE COMPONENTS

Objective

In this project hard diamond coatings will be applied to cemented tungsten carbide, cutting tools and choke trim components used in the aeronautical and oil industries respectively. The application of diamond films to improve the wear resistance of cemented carbide has been been restricted due to its poor adhesion which is associated with the cobalt binder. Good adhesion will be achieved by modifying the substrate film interface and optimising the diamond deposition conditions. In addition the project will develop a novel microwave diamond deposition technology to coat geometrically complex shapes such as the choke trim.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
