A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO CONCURRENT ENGINEERING

Objectif

The project is to provide a holistic technology transfer infrastructure enabling the effective and efficient change and improvement of present engineering practices towards concurrent engineering principles.

PACE intends to enable companies to bridge the gap between the nitial and required competence level by means of a sophisticated implemenation infrastructure consisting of

i) a knowledge platform providing as an underlying repository general as well as company specific information wtith respect to the four interrelated perspectives of engineering, ie. people, processes, information 1 communication, and instruments.
ii) a workbench comprising a set of complementary tools as decision support mainly for the planning and design phase of concurrent engineering implementation projects. The tools support cost/benefit analysis, performance metrics definition and coresponding measurement, modelling and evaluation of communication and organizatrional structures, and the selection of tools, techniques and methods related to concurrent engineering.
iii) a concurrent engineering implementation framework comprising an implementation methodology based on a step change approach, and a customizable scenario model.

To ensure the real-world relevance and applicability, results will be applied, evaluated and refined within closely controlled concurrent engineering implementation pilot projects to be performde at 4 different end-users.
