Resultados aprovechables

The objective of this project is to develop the plasma spraying deposition technique and the subsequent materials processing parameters in such a way that the superconductive properties are sufficiently good for practical applications. A plasma spray process for deposition of yttrium barium copper oxide coatings was developed successfully. The superconducting properties are sufficiently good for use of these coatings in magnetic shielding applications. An innovative aspect is the combination of conventional mu-metal shields with superconducting shields which yields a much better suppression of direct current magnetic fields than shields of only mu-metal with the same amount of nickel. The plasma spray technique is especially suited for the fabrication of shields with complex shapes. The main applications of this work are in the shielding of SQUID magnometers and rooms for biomagnetic measurements. The first steps have been taken to solve these problems. The next step will be adapting the postdeposition processing conditions in order to improve the superconductive properties.
