Objective
-Provide functional layout tools to enable initial definition of the fundamental characteristics of a mould.
-Provide tools to enable estimation of the cost of a mould, especially for quotation purposes.
-Provide tools to enable the design of a complete mould, and the production of a detailed description of this complete mould design (e.g. workshop drawings).
In PROMISES, a means has been created to make greater use of existing computer aided design/computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) and computer technology and a tighter integration between design and manufacture can be realised. There is a large market for the exploitation of these technological advances and apparently no other systems which have taken the same approach to providing a set of tools for mould design and manufacture. The inspirational skilled design work can be used automatically to create the detailing required for manufacturing purposes. The data required for many other aspects of the process can also be generated automatically from the complete description of the mould which is recorded.
