Decision support system for the plasma spray manufacturing process

The FABERCOAT System, a prototype decision support system for the plasma spray manufacturing process (final deliverable of the fundamental research BRITE/EURAM project FABERCOAT BREU0418), can be extended and applied to specific industrial cases. The FABERCOAT System consists of a deposition model based on extensive experimental and theoretical information, together with 2 components: a graphic user interface to communicate between operators and the model; an expert system component that coordinates the execution of the various models. The expert system component is used to: allow the user to perform intelligent and automatic searches in the spray parameters space; assist final users in performing reliable correlation between initial spray parameters and final coating properties. The final goal is the optimization of ceramic properties for particular applications using the available knowledge and software tools.
