Resultados aprovechables
The AIRES (automated image reconstruction using expert systems) project was devised for use for inspection of ground or machined components and will be capable of detecting and visualising defects such as cracks, pitting and changes in material quality. The use of an electromagnetic sensor system also allows the inspection of coated specimens.
The project involved the development of miniaturised array of electromagnetic sensors with associated electronics and new signal inversion procedures for defect sizing. An integrated vision and lighting system was also developed along with improved edge detection and other image processing algorithms for detection and characterisation of geometrical features and defects. A fast expert system was implemented using the blackboard architecture, and appropriate knowledge sources were compiled containing the expert knowledge required for the electromagnetic and vision sensors, sensor fusion and defect characterisation.
The project culminated in a demonstration of the two defect detection techniques separately. Furthur development at TSC is continuing to apply the alectromagnetic sensor arrays to a varity of applications.
