Exploitable results

Techno-Membranes is an applied research and development centre for membrane separation technology. Our current activity involves process engineering of separation techniques using microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration based on organic or mineral membranes commercially available or in development, and reverse osmosis and electrodialysis. These processes are applied in various areas such as agribusiness, water and wastewater treatment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and bioindustry. Their separation and concentration ability makes them efficient with respect to substances such as microscopic particles, colloids, organic molecules, ions and also for viruses and bacteria.
Membranes with improved performances have been produced by radiochemical grafting on fluorinated polymers. The anionic membranes have excellent properties for the reconcentration of acids such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen bromide. The cationic membranes have stable high proton permselectivity to divalent ions such as calcium and magnesium. These membranes have excellent performances with electrodialysis (ED) and EED processes.
Laboratory pilot and commercial scale equipment has been developed for electrodialysis, in particular for applications involved in concentrating and/or purifying mineral acids. Expertise is available with respect to the engineering, construction and erection of fully equipped industrial electrodialysis plants for general purpose as well as for the applications defined above.
