Resultados aprovechables

A method of producing bus structures has been developed using adhesive bonded aluminium extrusions for the side roof, floor rails and pillars. Various adhesive bonded joints were tested for strength and durability. Separate analytical exercises were done to study the stiffness, strength and energy absorption properties of the components and complete structure. All body components and 2 complete bays have been produced and are undergoing validation in terms of stiffness, durability and crashworthiness under rollover conditions. In order to assess the new technology under more realistic service conditions, the consortium is seeking further development support to manufacture 2 complete prototype vehicles. One prototype would be subjected to laboratory tests within the elastic range and finally to a rollover test. The other one would be used for a longer-term assessment in service.
A method of producing bus structures has been developed using adhesive bonded aluminium extrusions for the side roof, floor rails and pillars. During the initial stages of the project various adhesive bonded joints were tested for strength and durability. Separate analytical exercises were done to study the stiffness, strength and energy absorption properties of the components and complete structure. All body components and 2 complete bays have been produced and are undergoing validation in terms of stiffness, durability and crashworthiness under rollover conditions. The experience and expertise gathered within the project can be applied to a wide spectrum of structures where extruded aluminium alloys have to be joined together. The advantages of adhesive bonding can be realised only by proper design that would ensure adequate internal load distributions and mutual stiffness and strength compliance of the components.
