The aluminium recycling process is frequently done in rotatory ovens where common salts (ClNa, CIK) are used in order avoid undesirable oxidations of the metal.
As a by-product of this process a salt slag is obtained containing salts (ClNa, CIK), aluminium oxide (Al203) and pure aluminium (Al), where the metal is recovered by another process.
Most refineries dump these slags with the consequent environmental damage, but the aluminium recycling process would not be complete without the processing of these wastes for their reuse as a melting in the productive process. The slag pure of aluminium is also recyclable, when recycled two main products are generated, salts (ClNa, CIK) to be reused in the aluminium recycling process as a melting, and an inert waste (PAVAL). This is the objective of the PAVAL project.
Is in this sense where this project acquires a real innovative dimension, as the treatment of these slags will allow an optimal, and complete, exploitation of all materials which take place in the productive process. The inert product is mainly composed by Alumina (Al203) and some impurities which are the impedimenta for the use of the aluminium Dioxide in common industrial applications, as the production of prefabricated concrete structures, refractory bricks, ceramics, abrasives, fertilisers, ...
The objective of the project is to develop a process where these impurities are to be eliminated, allowing the use of the PAVAL, and to close the aluminium recycling process.
A wide branch of opportunities has been detected to reuse this material, within that range of applications, those related with cement, and concrete, have been selected because of the potential large amounts of material to be employed, and for the simplicity of the foreseen processes to be performed over this waste.
