Exploitable results

The introduce of airbags as a standard equipment of cars has strongly improved the safety of passengers and drivers on accidents. Nearly every new car is actually equipped with it thus providing a huge market world wide. Actual developments include: - Reduction of environmental and toxic impacts using azide free formulations - Smart systems enabling more intelligent and flexible reactions in accidents - Reduction of costs The accident scenarios are defined by type and heaviness of impacts combined with special driver and passenger situations. With respect to these specific conditions the airbag system had in the past only one response: go or no go. The objective of the project was to develop a model airbag system which combines a controllable variable gas output of the gas generator with a sensor and electronic control system able to react on various crash scenarios, on seat occupation and on passenger's position.
