A New Concept: Inverse Engineering Techniques in the Design of Forging Processes

Resultados aprovechables

The main industrial objectives to be achieved in the INEFOR Project were: - Reduction of time-to-market for new forged product by reducing design-time. - Simultaneous optimization of the process and the final product quality. - Application of existing tools for FEM simulation without needs of expertise in numerical methods. Technologies developed in the project A first prototype of the developed IE Tool (Inverse Engineering Tool) was presented during a dissemination activity carried out at LABEIN during the first semester of 1997, then in June of 1999 a workshop has been realized in LABEIN. About 50 companies belong to the forging and stamping sector assisted to this workshop. In addition the final version of this IE Tool prototype has already been installed in the industrial companies of the INEFOR (WYMAN-GORDON, SNECMA, GSB Forja and FOVISA). In addition, good results were obtained during numerical and experimental comparison of results. However the comparison procedure were slightly modified due to the large spread in experimental results. Instead of the derivatives, an indirect comparison was made using the exact value of the objective function. Academic examples were used to demonstrate the Sensitivity Analysis included in the IE Tool. The main result of INEFOR Project is the possibility to carry out automatic optimization of forging processes. Giving a bad sequence of forging, the IE Tool is capable to optimize it avoiding a fold defect and proposing new forging sequence.he dehalog
