Resultado final

Availability of a laboratory equipment demonstrating the operativeness of the new devices for PIII-equipment: -New patented low cost high voltage modulator, operating up to 40kV with 10A in the pulse. - In-situ temperature control of specimens located in plasma environment and treated with pulsed high voltages.
Tungsten carbide tools are widely used in the woodworking industry for machining plain woods as well as agglomerated boards. For machining soft woods, such as pinewood or spruce, Céramétal has brought on the market a specific carbide grade with a complex metallic binder that can be machined into knives with very sharp wedge angles. Since PIII-technique do not modify sharpness of cutting edges, PIII-treated tools have been tested, in the machining of bonded spruce boards. A 30% reduction of wear has been observed for the treated tools as compared to untreated reference tools, probably due to metallic binder strengthening. Further R&D work is however needed to get full confidence on the reproducibility of the process.
Availability of a laboratory equipment for the performance of friction and wear tests at high temperature (up to 1,100 Celsius). This device operates under bi-directional sliding conditions at small displacement amplitude (fretting tests) or large displacement amplitude (reciprocating tests). On-line recording of surface temperature and tangential force are available. Ex-situ characterisation of the wear track and wear debris can be offered (profilometry, surface morphology, elemental analysis). Access to this equipment is at present possible for interested research centres and industrial companies.
Availability of different laboratory equipment for the performance of PIII in either non-metal or metal containing plasma’s, or for the performance of a hybride PIII processing. These devices can also be used for the performance of heat treatment. Access to this equipment is at present also possible within the Access to Large Installations funded by the CEC.
