Deliverables

An integrated process including strain, protocol for algal production, photobioreactor and downstream processing of the microalgal biomass, is available. When the project commenced, no viable method existed for obtaining highly pure EPA from microalgae. All the partners of the consortium have the industrial and intellectual property rights to the developed process. In the case that any company wishes to exploit the complete process (production+ purification+ strain) an agreement among partners will specify compensation in proportion to partners’ contribution to the project. The integrated process is potentially applicable to the production of labelled PUFAs for biomedical and nutritional research. C-13 PUFAs does not exit in the market. Labelled EPA can only be produced via microbial culture and not from fish oil. The product is totally new.
