Deliverables

This particular study has been focusing on founding the range of sintering temperatures for liquid phase sintering of ferrous powder materials. Different technique analyses, such as DTA and dilatometry, were used. The materials characterised were iron base powder with different particle sizes, and material alloyed with Cr and Mo in different amounts. A broad range of different additives, promoting liquid phase formation, was tested. First, common materials such as copper, bronze and phosphorus bronze powders were added in two amounts (final content of 1 and 5 % total). Secondly, other materials were Cu3P and Fe-Mn-P. The amounts of these materials were 1, 3 and 5 %. After this study, focus was placed on the objective to promote higher contents of liquid phase, and in accordance with work by other partners, only one additive (Fe-Mn-P powder) was used. The range of addition was between 5 and 35%, and the optimum level of 35% derived was described and fully characterised.
