Resultado final

Antibiotic incorporation trials have been performed with resorbable test samples. Various compositions have been evaluated. The test bars have been evaluated in an antibiotic release study. An infection study in rabbits has been performed. Further investigation is needed for applying method to other devices and with other active products in order to increase the commercial potential. In addition, further development is required to control the incorporation level and reproducibility.
Experimental batches of composite materials with comparable mechanical and bio-resorption properties have been produced using two different processes: - The process developed by Phusis consists of an "in line process" during the production of materials for bio-resorbable polymeric devices for surgical implantation and tissue regeneration. - The process developed by DTI is one that can be applied broadly in collaboration with companies working with orthopaedic surgical implants and tissue regeneration materials. The goal of both these processes was to improve the ceramic/polymer interface and to obtain the optimal polymer ceramic composition in terms of physical, mechanical, chemical and biological properties.
