Intelligent manufacturing of wood products using colour, X-ray, and computer tomography-based quality control

Objective

We propose a project to apply Intelligent Manufacturing techniques to design and implement advanced technology for the year 2000 wood manufacturing plants. This projects brings together a consortium of SME's, Universities, and non-SME end-user companies. The goal is to advance the state-of-the-art in the area of automatic quality assurance in present and future wood manufacturing plants. This will result in efficient utilization of wood as a precious raw material, and at the same time reduce production costs through a high degree of automation. Technologically, the target is the development of a comprehensive intelligent on-line quality inspection system using digital color imaging techniques, X-ray imaging, and computer tomography imaging.
