Thematic Network on 2/stroke Engine Wear Parts

Objective

Original research objectives:

Funding was provided solely to stimulate interaction between groups in the field of wear parts for development of 2-stroke engines. There was no funding for research or development work and hence the main objectives were to provide a focus point for this activity.

Expected deliverables:
With the above remit the only deliverables were non-exploitable and include reviews of the subject, data-base material, meetings, Newsletters, and Workshops.
The following actions were completed:
Production of a review on "The state of development of the two-stroke SI-engine as a drive for automobiles "Production of a Bibliography of publications on 2-Stroke Engines Running 2 Workshops:
a.Open Workshop on 2-Stroke Engines, Capri, Italy, 16-17 September 1999;
b.Workshop on Engine Wear Protection, Mol, Belgium, 26 June 2000.

Running two scientific meetings reviewing the surface coating field:
(i) Recent developments in Surface Engineering, MMU Manchester, 31 March 1999 (some reports in Vacuum, 56(3) pp151-184 (2000));
(ii)Ion Beams and Plasma-Surface Interactions, MMU Manchester, UK, 3 May 2000.

Running a quo vadimus forum on 2-stroke engines at the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films, San Diego, 11 April 2000 Production and distribution of 4 Newsletters.
