Automatic Procedure to Manufacture Individual Implants-Custom Made Prosthesis-Operation Stencils Based on Computed Tomography Data

Objective

The objective of the programme is the development of an automatic low-cost processing to manufacture individual implants as well as custom made prostheses and operation stencils based on computed tomography data. A geometrically precise model can be designed on the basis of computed tomography scans. The model is manufactured with CAD/CAM systems. Due to these developments, industrial enterprises will be able to cover the medical demands for low-cost individual implants and thus serve an important and growing market in the medical field. Principally, the medically required precision of individual implants cannot be met with conventional technologies. These cannot convert the computed tomography data to a geometrically precise model. The processing-chain: DATA ACQUISITION - IMAGE PROCESSING - GEOMETRY PROCESSING - MANUFACTURING - SURGICAL PLANNING AIDS must be defined and co-ordinated with medical results. For an efficient processing, the single steps need to be mechanized. This development will be distributed together with a flow chart and guidelines concerning the processing-chain.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
