Objective The research project will be concerned with the development of an innovative electrochemical treatment device designed to selectively degrade toxic components from and hence detoxify an organic containing effluent stream prior to conventional bio-treatment processes. The use of the device to decolourise effluent without the addition of chemicals will also be investigated. The use of novel dimensionally stable ceramic electrode materials will be evaluated in 3-D packed bed reactors to treat aqueous waste arising from pulp and paper manufacture, dye- stuffs, speciality chemical and agrochemical production. The overall aim is to design and build a portable pilot plant/demonstration unit that can be transported to chemical plants to test effectiveness of the device and its compatibility with and supplementing of the existing bio-treatment plant under actual operating conditions Fields of science natural scienceschemical scienceselectrochemistry Programme(s) FP4-BRITE/EURAM 3 - Specific research and technological development programme in the field of industrial and materials technologies, 1994-1998 Topic(s) 0201 - Materials engineering Call for proposal Data not available Funding Scheme EAW - Exploratory awards Coordinator Atraverda Ltd.
