Objective
The aim of the project is to improve abrasive water suspension jets (ASJ) by means of adding additives to the water. Addition of additives increases the performance by increasing the particle velocity as well as the jet stability and coherency. These improvements will enable to increase the overall cutting efficiency and to enlarge the application of the non-polluting abrasive water suspension jet technology to new industrial sectors as well as to machining operations not possible within existing cutting technologies. The results will therefore significantly strengthen the competitiveness of European companies dealing with abrasive water suspension jets as well as of companies using this technology for manufacturing and demolition purposes in air and under water. All industrial partners involved are SMEs with business activities in abrasive water jet technology as well as in additives. Two research institutes are involved too with excellent experience in water jet technology. The research work will cover the basic influence of different additives on the jet structure and performance as well as studies concerning the application of additives on conventional ASJ facilities.
