Development of a lid for glass containers using partial vacuum technology

Objective

The objective of the project is to develop a new kind of lid for jars, pots and other sorts of containers which traditionally employ plastic or metal lids. The industrial objectives are to produce a lid which combine the utilities of hermetic and air-tight closure as well as easy handling and opening for consumers by improved performance and increased functionality. The lid will be developed for glass containers mainly for the food-processing industry, consumer goods and pet-food. To reach technical objectives engineering design tools and materials welding will be applied to construct a lid moulded in plastic with a steel spring which comply fully with industrial requirements and consumers demand for functional products. Additional environmental objectives are to improve activities towards increased recycling and collection of glass containers as the lid will be composed of recyclable materials.
