Application of copper alloys in manufacturing injection moulds for plastics

Objective

The increasing use of plastics by equipment manufacturers demands increased dimensional precision. Cost cutting is high on the agenda of EU manufacturers who face unremitting global competition. The OEMs are shifting more and more responsibility down the supply chain requiring plastic moulders to contribute to cost reduction efforts. The objective of this project is to develop cost effective Copper Alloy mould tooling that will enable the EU plastics industry to maintain and extend its competitive position in global markets. This objective will be achieved through the development of:
Thermally Superior Copper Alloy Mould Tooling
Rapid tooling techniques to shorten product lead time
Technology that will secure Europe's market position in the face of aggressive penetration by industrialising nations The RTD goals to achieve this result:
reduction in injection moulding cycle times
capability of producing moulding tools that facilitate rapid uniform cooling without detriment to part quality
reduced tooling lead times for fast to market availability The economic and social benefits are increased prosperity for EU industry which will make an important contribution to safeguarding the employment of more than one million people in the plastics processing sector.
