Objective of the project was the development of advanced automation technologies in a traditionally small and middle sized structured sector of the concrete industry: The industrial precasting of the elements for concrete buildings (such as walls and roof plates).
As automation of the production is the future competitive edge in this market, the project has improved the following main steps of production process in a precasting factory:
1. Optimisation of the robot control and gripper for setting the form and shuttering of the precast parts.
2. Improving quality and speed of the production of wire mesh as reinforcing steel.
3. Improving the quality of distributing the concrete into the form.
4. Introduction of new optimisation tools into the central production control computer.
The dissemination of the results of the project will significantly reduce the production costs and the production time of concrete elements. The raw materials needed will be reduced also, caused by higher precision of production due to an increase in automation. Furthermore high amounts of wood and polystyrene wastes, that until now are needed as filling material in the form, will be completely saved. Working conditions will be improved, because hard, dirty and monotonous labour can be replaced by automatic systems.
