Heavy metal free waterborne anti-corrosion coatings from intrinsically conductive polymers

Objectif

It is aimed to produce a heavy metal free waterborne anti-corrosion coating with new functional polymers, called intrinsically conductive polymers (ICPs). Three classes of ICPs will be investigated on there corrosion protecting capabilities. These classes are; polyanilines, polypyrroles and polythiophenes. Next an anticorrosion paint based on these materials will be developed. Alone, ICPs lack the necessary properties such as adherence, processibility and stability to be usefull products. A new dispersion technology will be developed based on efficient use of the relatively high price ICP whitin the anti-corrosion paint system. A heav,v metal free and VOC free coating system would minimize the environmental and health impact for coatings used in the building-, marine- and construction industry.
