Improvement of the quality of cork tiles for floors made of natural corl by development of new binder and surface treatment on biological materials

Objective

Goal of the research project is the quality-improvement of cork tiles for floors. With regard to the increasing demand on the environmental sociability of products and the quality of domestic atmosphere the use of cork tiles for floors is disputed. Reason for the dispute is the emission of formaldehyd and phenolic substances out of the binders which are used for the production of cork tiles for floors. In the frame of the research project it is planned to develop a new method for the production of this plates. For that the development of novel binders for the glueing of cork and the coating of the tiles is presumed. These binders should be produced on the base of natural sources to decrease the emission. At the same time the novel binders have to guarantee the high demands on the tiles for floors related to carrying capacity and step comfort. For the adaption of the developed binders into the production, the process has to be explored. On that account the collaboration of the producer and the user of the products with a scientific cooperator is necessary. The proposal for the optimization of the production allow the simultaneous improvement of authenticity and product quality after the technical realization.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
