Research project proposal for the development of integrated aeroponics systems

Objective

The present proposal aims at developing an innovative aeroponics system that, on the one hand, reduces the costs of investment and therefore can make the system accessible to SMEs as well, and on the other grows simultaneously a number of different horticultural and floricultural crops while maintaining the same high quality. The innovative solution will consist of the following: . the use of very simplified and fully recirculating nutritious solutions (i.e. starting from and returning to the same point and not starting in one container and ending in another) with monitoring and replenishment of the solutions; . innovative distribution and structure of the system in the available area to obtain the most efficient use of available space, achieving minimisation of unproductive tares within the greenhouses to approximately 10% of the soil (from an average 35-40% of existing methods) . the use of a computerised system to control the climate in the greenhouse and the components of the nutritious solution Through the innovative solutions here proposed, it will be possible to realise an aeroponics system at limited cost and with substantial gains in terms of environmental protection, profitability, saving, organisation of agricultural labour and versatility.
