Objetivo
Machining of copper and copper alloys is negatively effected by metal solubilization in the cutting emulsions. The consequences are spotted metal surfaces and malfunctions in the subsequent degreasing. Furthermore a source for metal pollution hazards is founded. The turnover of heavy metal contaminated emulsions is estimated to 5 000 m3 annually in Europe. The project attacks the problems at their origin with the following objectives * Development of new cutting tool materials and cutting fluids * Reduction of metal solubilization in cutting fluids with at least 90 % * Specification of obtainable machined surface qualities under given machine parameter conditions * Description of water based degreasing formulations with approved degreasing effect and minimised metal solubilization A successful completion of the project will improve quality and productivity substantially and lead to significant environmental benefits.
