Objective The scientific and technical objectives of this research proposal concern the application of the unique thermal insulation, low density and high strength characteristics of the biological inert material calcium silicate to complex net-shaped insulation bodies. They can be used as components for consumer and industrial products as solar collectors and electronic devices housings. Research is required to characterise the material, to establish optimal material mixtures and to set-up effective production processes. Problems of resistance to climate influence are addressed.
