Optimisation of process parameters of the "automatic pressure gelation" process for the production of high quality electrically insulating parts of duroplastics cast resin mouds

Objective

Optimisation of process parameters of the "Automatic Pressure Gelation" process for the production of high quality electrically, insulating parts of duroplastic cast resin moulds The aim of this work is the simulation of the curing process of epoxy systems, inside a metallic tool in view to manufacture high quality insulating parts for medium and high voltage application. The simulation of the curing process in an early stage of designing components, associate tool and choosing manufacturer process data, contributes essentially to the optimisation of the casting process and avoid time otherwise needed for experiments. The required output of the simulation are the computer based prescription of the resin system, the tool geometry and heating power, the filling time, the usage time of the tool, the post hardening time and temperature, the remaining cooling shrinkage The main requirements of the insulating parts are good electrical insulation properties as well as good - mechanical and thermal ones. "Good" electrical properties depend on a well guided manufacturing process of high accuracy components, thus realising an insulation with homogeneous structure, i.e. with a minimised shrinkage without voids and cracks The parameters responsible for the success of the production process are: the material parameters the prescriptions of the mixture ratio, furnished by the producer of epoxy resin system and based on own experiments of the insulating parts producer, the process parameters. . the filling time and filling pressure, the heating of the system and the time how long the epoxy remains in the closed tool furnished by the producer of insulating parts and casting equipment. the design and geometric parameters the shape and applied inserts of the insulating component to be manufactured prescribed by the casting equipment producer and the user of the insulating parts These parameters may effect negatively the quality of the moulded piece, i.e.: the material can be overheated and damaged because the amount of energy generated by the curing, appearance of internal tensions, cracks and voids in case of an early solidification process in the injection channel region, appearance of internal tensions caused by the cooling process of two different materials with very different deformations properties. Presently the designer of the manufacturing tool has to chose from the set of possible parameters an subjective estimated optimum, in a second step he has to realise and to optimise the casting process empirically based on experiments. Simulation of the curing process of epoxy resin systems is of interest for the producers of epoxy resin systems, of casting equipment and tools and of different high voltage insulating components. All these categories are represented in the proposed work group. The software developing activities and the laboratory determination of the material data will be performed by two Universities. The casting equipment will be realised with the co-operation of four small companies. The high precision measurement equipment for the quality diagnostics of the insulating parts will be realised by a specialised company. The transfer of software from the University to the companies and the test procedures in the final phase of the research project will be realised with the participation of all partners.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
