R&d of new technologies for - hides mechanical dehairing; production of stabilised hides after deliming / bating phase

Objetivo

In the traditional tanning cycle, dehairing of hides is carried out in a chemical bath with water, sulphides, lime and other chemicals. The liquid waste derived from this phase is highly pollutant so as to cause frequent troubles in the waste waters depurator. Therefore it should be very interesting to set up a technology for a mechanical dehairing of hides, instead of the chemical/biochemical treatments employed at present. Such an innovation could enable: - not to use sulphide compounds and therefore to reduce the pollutant load in liquid effluents; - to improve hides cleaning (dehairing); - to carry out at the same time dehairing and fleshing; - to recycle uncontaminated hair besides shreds of flesh; - to improve hides quality ( for the absence of sulphides in liming step) Another interesting new technology substituting pickel phase could be developed. After the hides deliming-bating step, traditional tanning cycle could be modified in order to obtain a semifinished product resulting "stabilised"; that is to say fit for mechanical processes like splitting and shaving, and then fit for the next tanning step. Some important advantages may be got, as: - improvement of hides quality; - elimination of pickel phase; - reduction of Chrome salts consumption owing to the decreased hides surface being tanned and the increased hides reactivity; - higher exhaustion of chrome bath in tanning step, for the higher reaction efficiency. - elimination of re-tanning phase.
