Resultado final

The main results of the project are the validation and the characterisation of processes that combines the new manufacturing technologies denominated Rapid Prototyping with the traditional casting process in particular sand and investment casting in order to reduce the time to get totally functional prototypes. The main benefits of the project are knowledge of the different ways of getting fully functional prototypes in cast iron and steel. Not only the feasibility of the processes, the skills necessaries to do then, but also the limitations of each process has been described. The processes defined and tested combines the foundries process defined above with the next RP&T techniques: -LOM.(Laminated Object Manufacturing). -Stereolithography. (Access and Quick-Cast building style). -Selective laser sintering (polymers and metals). -Silicon & resins tools The knowledge and the skills gained by the foundries and the R&D performers during the project development will permit to these companies to improve its position in front of its customers. With this new service the small foundries that usually have not access to be product development partners, start having a contact with the this processes. This service will be the first step to pass form foundry suppliers to services suppliers and to product development partners.
